MEIBC

Minimum wage rates for all scheduled employees in the Metal and Engineering Industries are negotiated by the representative employer and trade union parties to the MEIBC, usually for a one-year period from 1st July to 30th June.

In addition, increased rates are set for overtime, payment for work on Sundays, public holidays and prescribed allowances. The basic wage table for grades A (artisans) to H (labourers) are set out in the table hereunder. There are other specific wage tables for the following specialised sub-sectors:-

  • Vehicle drivers;
  • Structural engineering and other intermediary rates for certain job categories;
  • Schedule F (electrical cable manufacturing);
  • Gate and fence sector;
  • Apprentices;
  • Voluntary five-grade job and wage structure; and
  • The special dispensation for minimum wage rates applicable to construction sites.

The wage rates are published in the Government Gazette by the Minister of Labour and are binding on the whole industry.
